This last weekend I had the pleasure of 2nd Shooting for award-winning WPJA member Preston Utley. Preston’s work is a testament to his technical abilities as a photographer, his keen eye for composition and his slightly subdued yet totally quirky sense of humor.
Second shooting offers a different dimension of wedding photography. Covering the sidelines gives you the chance to break out of your mold a little bit. See things from a different angle. Briefly struggle with the frustration of not being able to get front-and-center for the moment that’s about to happen. And then realize that the same moment is still happening from where you are. Just with a different perspective.
It also affords the opportunity to experiment a little. Take some chances. Try out a new technique or two.
Jenny and Taylor had a wonderful evening ceremony and reception at the Grant Humphreys Mansion in Denver. With more staircases and rooms and doors and antique paintings than I could keep track of, this is a pretty cool building. An extremely photogenic couple that seemed to be constantly smiling made it a great night. Oh yeah, and they had party masks. And the music was bumpin’ right out of the gates. Needless to say, everyone there totally rocked out.
With a big ‘Congratulations!’ to Jenny and Taylor, and a heartfelt thanks to Preston for having me out, here are a few images from the night.
