Megan & Ken: Yosemite Engagement Photography

As a wedding photographer and climber, it’s hard to imagine a more majestic place to get married than Yosemite National Park. Megan and Ken have chosen a wedding in Yosemite Valley, surely one of the most incredible venues in the world. As a wedding photographer in Lake Tahoe, I thought an engagement session in Yosemite’s high country would be a great prequel to their Fall wedding celebration in the valley.

After a long Sierra winter, Tioga Pass finally opened and I was able to meet up with Megan and Ken in Tuolumne Meadows. Record-breaking snowfall delayed the normal Tioga Pass opening. When we got there, the reasons were clear. With so much snowfall, the roads were not clear until recently. Most impressive was the effect of all the melting snow in the warm June sun. Rivers were raging, ponds had become lakes, and the meadows themselves were half-submerged in an amorphous water feature that seemed to have no beginning or end. The engagement photography session was an adventure in itself.

For the most part, we were able to locate the high and dry areas. Fortunately, Megan and Ken aren’t afraid to roll up a pant leg or two. After a little frigid wading that proved deeper than we had planned, I could tell these guys were up for just about anything.

Spending an afternoon romping through Tuolumne Meadows with these two was a blast. I’m totally looking forward to their wedding in Yosemite this September. How often do you get to photograph a couple in a place like this?
