Beatnik Studios Wedding in Sacramento: Jenn + Nels
Jenn and Nels knew from the start what one of the main hopes for their wedding day would be. In particular, they wanted their friends and family to have as much fun as possible. This applied to adults as well as kids. As I do whenever I have the chance to shoot somewhere new, I researched their ceremony and reception venues. Slowly, I began to visualize their Beatnik Studios wedding. What they didn’t tell me was there would be a groomsmen barbershop quartet. Nor did they mention a surprise flash mob dance performance that would take over the entire dance floor.
Jenn and Nels knew what kind of photos they wanted from their day. Altogether, they resonated with my candid and documentary style from the beginning. As a result they were comfortable trusting me with the details. Owing to that trust, they left it to me to document their celebration quietly, attentively, and with an eye for meaningful moments throughout the day. At the same time it didn’t hurt that they both wore a good portion of their wedding joy on their sleeves the entire time.
On my way back to Lake Tahoe that night I couldn’t help thinking, “that was ridiculously fun. Maybe I should just specialize in Filipino weddings from now on?” To Jen and Nels, “Maligayang bati sa iyong kasal!!!”
