As we finalized our plans for their Lake Tahoe engagement photos, Katie and Ryan told me to look for the truck with the canoe up on the roof. Summertime in Tahoe means plenty of paddle boards on roof racks. In the center of Truckee, kayaks, and jet skis roll by daily. But it’s not everyday you see a vintage-style canoe modeled after an original 1970’s Malecite. I wasn’t sure what they were planning to bring along for the engagement session, but it was immediately clear that this was indeed a proper canoe!
As we drove towards Donner Lake, the subject of fishing came up. Prior to that, I pegged Ryan as a textbook fisherman. What can I say? He sports a classy beard, a vintage-looking canoe, and an authentic walnut paddle. Given these points I expected him want to talk about hooking rainbow trout. Instead it was, “fishing? Not so much. Too much sitting around.” I quickly learned that Ryan has more energy than Mentos in a Coke bottle. SUPing from the Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate and back before work? Standard workout. Katie and Ryan both made the evening a lot of fun. They were game for exploring several of the great spots for engagement photos around Donner Summit and Truckee.
It turns out their canoe will be doing ice chest duty at their wedding. I thought, how many beers does it take to fill up a 17 foot long canoe? Then I thought, how awesome is this party going to be if everyone actually drinks all those beers? Regardless, I have a pretty good feeling these guys are going to have an amazing celebration this September!
