Stephanie and Thomas’ wedding holds a special place in my heart. For starters, their Mountain Terrace wedding was right down the road from where I grew up. As a young explorer, I knew these Redwood forests well. Furthermore, I have fond memories of dining at The Mountain Terrace restaurant and the famous Alice’s Restaurant across the street. But more importantly, Stephanie and I are alumni of the same Bay Area high school.

This San Francisco Bay Area wedding venue is an ideal place for an outdoor wedding. Even though it is conveniently located just a short drive from Menlo Park and Palo Alto, the setting is completely different from a downtown cityscape. In the event the summertime fog rolls up and over the ridge in the evening, you will truly feel like you are a world away from the bustle of the Peninsula.

I have a soft spot for anyone who wears their emotions on their sleeve. Stephanie and Thomas laughed, cried, and danced their way through their wedding day. As a photographer, this made it so easy to fall in love with them and everyone celebrating with them. Being present and in the moment is a fundamental ingredient of great documentary wedding photography. When your subjects bring the same presence of mind and heart to their day, it pays off!
