She Said Yes! A Summertime Lake Tahoe Marriage Proposal on a Dock

One of the highlights of getting engaged in the mountains is all the thought and preparation that goes into it. Especially if you want to surprise your partner! I photographed this summertime Lake Tahoe marriage proposal on a dock after several weeks of careful organizing.

On the day of the proposal, everything came together. While he asked the big question, I captured authentic, joyful moments between them. Then, I guided them to a few different spots along the dock and beach for some scenic portraits next to (and in!) Lake Tahoe.

Timing at this location was key. Too early, and she’d be squinting into the sun; too late, and the exposure between the dock and background would be tricky.

Mountain light changes constantly. So, my surprise proposal packages always include location scouting. Even for spots I’ve shot before. I check lighting, shadows, angles, and access. All these important details make sure the day goes smoothly. I want to make the best photos I can. And the last thing you want is to arrive and find the road or parking lot closed.

When they arrived, I stayed out of sight until they were over the water, Then, I moved into position on the dock.

When they turned to face one another and he got down on one knee, I was ready to capture these great moments.

As the couple walked along the dock, I kept shooting. These candid moments show the excitement and joy of the day. And these photos give the couple images that will help them remember exactly how it felt.

A Mini Engagement Session After the Proposal

After capturing the surprise proposal, I guided them through a fun and easy mini-session. These photos are scenic, environmental portraits. I let the light, the lake, and their natural energy create the images rather than posing them rigidly.
