Spring is the perfect time for a surprise proposal in Lake Tahoe. With fewer crowds and endless views of snowy peaks, you’ll find a serene and picturesque setting for this special moment.

I photographed this Lake Tahoe proposal on a beautiful March morning. The groom reached out to me a couple of months in advance, and we discussed location options via email and phone. Together, we crafted the perfect plan to surprise his girlfriend.

Surprise Proposal with a Pet Sign

This couple’s dog goes everywhere with them. So, the groom had a cute idea: he wanted their furry companion to wear a proposal dog sign.

While his girlfriend was enjoying the lake views, he swiftly put the sign on their dog. When she turned around, she saw him down on one knee with a wedding ring in his hands.

She also saw their four-legged friend wearing the special sign that said, “Mommy, will you marry Daddy?”

The weeks of planning paid off! His girlfriend was overjoyed and so excited. Capturing these emotional moments during a surprise proposal is what I love most about my work.

After the proposal, we walked down the beach to take some more photos. No crowds here- just us!

In a cool, shady aspen grove, where winter snow still blanketed the ground, I took advantage of the scenic backdrop to create a few candid portraits. This is a great spot for a photoshoot like this. By taking a short walk, I can add lots of variety to the photo collection.

During our previous conversations, the groom told me he really wanted photos with snowy mountains and the lake in the background. I positioned them in front of Rubicon Peak, Jake’s Peak, and Maggie’s Peaks for a candid portrait that shows the beauty of Lake Tahoe during the winter months.

I also took a moment to highlight the engagement ring, framed by the deep blue colors of Lake Tahoe and the sky above.
