Working with Ali and Rob during their Truckee engagement photos session was a real treat. Quite often, folks don’t have a location preference when it comes to engagement photos. Whenever people say are open to anything, I present some of my favorite areas. Naturally, Lake Tahoe has a ton of really cool portrait spots. But there are also some great locations for Truckee engagement photos west of the lake. In this case I recommend we explore Old Highway 40 near Donner Lake.
The old snowshed tunnel near historic Highway 40 contains the greatest concentration of graffiti in Truckee. As soon as I mentioned it, these guys were super keen to make the short hike and start exploring. As a graffiti artist in the Bay Area, Rob recognized a number of graffiti pieces and tags. Rob’s name was even up there as a shout-out by one of his buddies. It’s one thing to check out random art done by strangers. It’s another thing to look at signatures and realize that your friends did it.
During the our shoot Ali and Rob kept talking about their friends. Clearly, an incredible cast of cool characters and amazing friends make up a very important part of their lives. When I photographed their wedding a few months later, I realized that these accolades were no understatement. Their wedding was a seriously legit party. They worked with a fantastic Lake Tahoe wedding planner and found a sweet place right on the water. It turned out to be an incredible venue for their wedding!
