Even though most couples gravitate towards summer for a wedding, October is one of Tahoe’s best-kept secrets. Ryan and Matthew spend a lot of time in these mountains. So, they already had the insider tip! They also settled on a venue which (as a cross-country skier, mountain biker, and hiker) holds a special place in my heart. Admittedly, the Alder Creek Adventure Center sees fewer weddings than its sister venue, The Lodge. But if you love the more natural setting of Alder Creek, you will see why it was a great choice for their Lake Tahoe LGBTQ wedding.
As with many Tahoe weddings, Ryan and Matthew’s families hosted a “Welcome Wine Hour” at Uncorked for their out-of-town guests. This is a great way to connect with all your wedding guests as you kick off a fun weekend. A sit-down rehearsal dinner at Moody’s followed, for immediate family and wedding party members. As a wedding photographer in Tahoe, these pre-wedding events help me learn more about a couple’s family, friends, and relatives. Conversely, it helps everyone become accustomed to me and how I work.
One of the highlights of Ryan and Matthew’s Tahoe wedding was a side-trip to shoot wedding party portraits in an Aspen grove. Since they kicked off the day at a vacation home in Northstar, the drive to this popular spot on Highway 267 was quick and easy. I also loved that Cooper, their Chocolate Lab, stepped in faithfully as a “Flower Dog” for their ceremony!
