Megan and Joe’s Tuolumne Meadows elopement is the kind of wedding photography assignment I wait for. To be sure, there are many folks that get married in Yosemite National Park. But most Yosemite weddings are down the road in the valley. Even though everyone knows about Yosemite Valley, fewer people know about this little piece of heaven called Tuolumne Meadows.
If you love to hike, backpack, or rock climb, you probably already know about Tuolumne Meadows. In case you don’t, you should plan a trip here! The air is crisp and the sun shines almost every day during the summer. Most importantly, the hordes of Yosemite tourists are miles and miles away. You can stroll along the river, tie into a rope and friction your way up gorgeous granite slabs, or simply relax on the beach at Tenaya Lake. All of a sudden you will wonder why you didn’t come here sooner!
If you are planning a wedding in Yosemite, Tuolumne Meadows should be on your list. To clarify, Tuolumne Meadows should be on your list if you want an outdoor elopement in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Because there aren’t any huge hotels in this part of Yosemite, you won’t be having a sit-down dinner for 200. There is a campground. And a ranger station. And a little store where you can stock up bear bells and trail mix. If you decide to elope and get married in Tuolumne Meadows, the natural surroundings will be all you need.
Megan and Joe’s families stood by as they said their vows. Tenaya Lake and Tenaya Peak both served as witnesses. After the ceremony we headed up to Olmsted Point for one of the best views in Tuolumne Meadows. Looking east towards Mt. Conness, you can see some of the most noteworthy domes, including Tenaya Peak!
